Donald Bruce Lambert (Donnie, 78) of Fort Mill , South Carolina passed away on Thursday, March 5 at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, South Carolina.
Donald gave 18 years and 8 months of his life to the United States Army. During his career with the military, he received many accommodation medals. He received a Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, 2 Purple Hearts, along with many others. After his military career, Donald spent many years as a doffer at the Celanese in Rock Hill, SC. Donald was proud to be an American and loved his country. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Eli Bailes Post 43, a lifetime member of the VFW and was also a Master Mason of the Catawba Lodge No.56. Donald was an avid Alabama Football Fan. He also loved NASCAR and sitting in his recliner watching “Shoot ‘em Ups”. He enjoyed fishing and cruising with family and friends. Donald would give you the shirt off of his back and helped many people when they were in need.
He was preceded in death by his father. Willard Cornelius Lambert, his mother, Peggy Rayfield Lambert, his sisters Vicky Lambert, Terry Pettus, Linda Whiteside, and his brother-in-laws, David Whiteside Sr and Wayne Roberts.
Donald is survived by his loving daughter, Jamie Riedel (Kenneth), his two beautiful granddaughters, Jaci Watkins and Journey Riedel all of Columbus, GA, his sister Karen Porter of Surfiside Beach, SC, a brother- in-law, Mike Pettus, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as well as many friends to include his special friends Mandy Moore and Jane Medlin Smith(Wyatt) .
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11 from 2:00-3:00 at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC with the Service directly after from 3:00 to 4:00. A drop-in gathering will be between 4:30-6:00 at American Legion Eli Bailes Post 43 in Fort Mill. Donald will be interred on Thursday, March 12th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the American Legion Eli Bailes Post 43 or a charity of your choice.
