Cynthia Collins (92), beloved by family and friends, died peacefully at about 1:00 AM on January 1, 2026, at her son Martin’s home in Indian Land, South Carolina. She resided in Nottingham, Maryland. Cynthia was a British subject but had been a legal resident of the United States for 70 years. The cause of death was respiratory failure due to a stroke.

She was born Cynthia Ann Scillitoe on April 3, 1933, in Mundford, Norfolk, England, to parents Frederick Arthur Scillitoe and Ethel Jones, both deceased. Her brother, Ivor Scillitoe, is also deceased. She was married in Thorpe Achurch, Northamptonshire, England, on August 29, 1953, to Raymond Lawrence Collins, and they remained married for 36 years until he died in 1989, after which she remained a widow for 36 years.

Cynthia is survived by her children, Martin Glyn Collins, Rhonda Darice Diggins, and David Lawrence Collins. She had six grandchildren, Stacey Lemieux, Kristen Collins, Andrew Smith, Brett Diggins, Christopher Collins, and Alyssa Diggins, and two great-grandsons, Jordan Lemieux and Logan Lemieux. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Dylan Lemieux.

Cynthia was educated in England. She worked in hospital in England as a nurse's aide. After marriage, she was a loyal homemaker and diligently served those in need.

She was very gregarious and quick to make friends wherever she went. Many unrelated adults and children alike called her “grandmum.” Cynthia was a faithful baptized member of God’s church for more than 60 years. To her family and friends, Cynthia was always amiable and deeply interested in others’ lives.

She will be greatly missed by the many whose hearts were touched by her kind and good-natured demeanor.

The memorial service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00 A.M.
