Clyde Dunlap Herron's Obituary

Clyde Dunlap Herron, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. Known affectionately by family and friends as "Paw", "Midget", and "Bubba". Clyde lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

Born in Rock Hill, SC to the late Newton R. Herron and Lois Blanchette Herron. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Strait Herron, and his brothers, Dick Herron and Pat Herron.

Clyde is survived by his loving children: daughter Paula Hough (Mike Hammond), and sons Randy Herron (Jo Ann Herron), Eric Herron (Becky Caldwell), and Strait Herron (Brigitte Herron). He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his legacy.

A proud veteran, Clyde served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956, holding the rank of FTA 3. Following his military service, he built a strong work ethic throughout his career, including employment at Celanese and with the United States Postal Service. He ultimately retired as Postmaster of the Catawba Post Office in South Carolina, where he was respected for his dedication and service.

Clyde was a long time member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and was deeply involved in his community. He was also a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge 416, the Lake Wylie Shag Club, and the Rock Hill Shag Club. In his leisure time, he found great joy in hunting, fishing, and woodworking - hobbies that reflected both his patience and craftsmanship.

Clyde will be remembered as a talkative and engaging storyteller, a talented shag dancer, and often the life of the party. He had a humorous and sometimes feisty spirit, paired with a simple, determined outlook on life and a strong sense of independence - often insisting, "I can do it myself." A dedicated and dependable man, he was also a skilled hunter, an avid collector, and someone who genuinely enjoyed being around others. His personable nature, warm charm, and loving heart - along with a playful, flirtatious streak - left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His strength of character and vibrant presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill. A graveside service will immediately follow from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Grandview Memorial Park on South Cherry Road in Rock Hill.
