Christine Johnson Ricks passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025 at the age of 100. She was born on August 17, 1924 in Roanoke Rapids NC to the late James Frank Johnson and Olia Winton Blythe Johnson.
She was predeceased by her husband Linwood (Link), her son Lynn Ricks, and her beloved granddog Sophie.
She was a long standing member of Bethel Friends Meeting in Franklin VA.
Known as one of the “Johnson girls,” she grew up in Franklin. She outlived her siblings Elizabeth, Evelyn, Jack, and Ernest, but continued to keep them close to her heart and she told many entertaining stories about their childhood.
Mom was always impeccably dressed and was proud that even at the age of 100, she could visit her hair and nail salons. She could fry the best cornbread that to this day I cannot master. Everyone loved her potato salad, hot cheese biscuits, and preacher cookies.
In 2001 she and Link moved to Charlotte NC to be closer to Lynn and Ann. Even though Mom and Dad missed Franklin, Lynn and I made sure they stayed busy and they had many fun times with family and friends. When Dad passed Mom continued to live on her on until her eyesight began to fail. She then lived with Ann for eight years until her passing. Her granddog Bogie was her constant companion and she had many loving and caring neighbors.
Mom looked forward to her phone conversations with her family and friends. For her 100th birthday, we had a wonderful celebration for her. She was so pleased that so many of her friends and family traveled miles to celebrate HER.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Ann (Vivian), her nieces , nephews, cousins, and her faithful granddog Bogie.
I would like to extend a special thank you to her niece Loretta who faithfully called Mom every night.
A Quaker Prayer to honor Mom
Life is eternal and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and a horizon is nothing more than the limit of our sight…..
