A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026 at Whitesell Funeral Home. The family would like to welcome friends and family to the home of Terry and Chery Lowe after the service, 4pm until.
Born on March 28, 1958, in Greenville, South Carolina, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Kenneth E. Kelley and Alma June Stephens Kelley.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Donald Terry Lowe, who passed away in 2021; her brothers, Stephen and William Kelley; and her nephew, Brandon Kelley.
Cheryl and her family were active members of Unity Presbyterian Church from 1993 until 2021, where faith and fellowship were an important part of their lives.
Cheryl was a hardworking, determined woman with a strong will and an independent spirit. From a young age, her father taught her practical skills and the value of working with her own two hands. Whether fixing something around the house, tackling a project, or working outdoors, Cheryl was never afraid to roll up her sleeves and get things done. She took great pride in her abilities and found satisfaction in a job well done.
In the early 1980s, Cheryl worked for nearly a decade as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Easley, South Carolina, delivering mail on foot along her route. After moving to Fort Mill, she devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her family, while also cleaning homes for many years, work she approached with the same dedication and pride.
Cheryl found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking, hosting family gatherings, and bringing people together. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, working in her yard, and caring for her pool. In her later years, some of her most peaceful moments were spent sitting on her front porch swing, listening to the gentle sounds of her wind chimes and enjoying a good book.
Cheryl shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Terry. Throughout their 39 years of marriage, they built a life centered around their home and family. Her love for him remained a cherished part of her life following his passing in 2021.
Those who knew Cheryl knew she was truly one of a kind. She had a strong-willed spirit, seemingly endless energy, a wild imagination, and a personality that was entirely her own. She lived life authentically and unapologetically, never pretending to be anyone other than herself. She was a loyal friend, a dependable helping hand, and someone you could always call when you found yourself in a bind. To many of her friends and family, Cheryl was a lifesaver, always willing to show up, lend a hand, and do whatever she could to make things better. Putting others before herself came naturally to her; it was simply part of who she was.
Above all else, Cheryl's greatest joy and most treasured role in life was being "Mema."
Cheryl was a natural nurturer whose love was most often expressed through the things she did for others. She was happiest when she was taking care of the people she loved, whether that meant preparing a home-cooked meal, making sure everyone had what they needed, offering a helping hand, or simply being there when someone needed her. Caring for her family was never something she considered an obligation; it was at the very heart of who she was.
As a wife, mother, and Mema, Cheryl gave generously of herself, so often placing the needs and happiness of others before her own. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and belonging, where family was always welcome and everyone knew they were loved. She had a special way of showing her love through the countless little things she did each day.
Being Mema to her grandchildren was undoubtedly one of the greatest highlights of her life. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into loving, nurturing, and caring for each of them. She treasured the time they spent together and the memories they created. Her beloved dog, Willow, was also a cherished member of her family and held a special place in her heart.
Cheryl is survived by her eldest daughter, Shannon Lowe; granddaughter, Haylee Mumma (JT Tover); and great-grandchildren, Tucker and Kooper, of Rock Hill, SC; son, Zachary Lowe (Jennifer Trent), and grandchildren, Emma Harper and Abby Lowe, of Rock Hill, SC; daughter, Amy Lowe, and grandchildren, Wyatt and Evelyn Lowe-Smith, of Indian Land, SC; and youngest daughter, Kasey Lowe (Aaron Pence), and grandchildren, Aaron (HJ), Annabelle, and Ava Kate, of Rock Hill, SC. She is also survived by her dearly beloved and cherished sister, Pamela Kelley, of Easley, SC, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cheryl will be remembered for her strength, her spirited personality, her generous heart, and the unwavering love she had for her family. She was someone who found purpose in being needed, happiness in giving, and fulfillment in knowing that those she loved were cared for.
Her greatest legacy is the love she leaves behind — a love reflected in the family she nurtured, the home she created, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, loyalty, and care.
Although her family will deeply miss her presence, her home-cooked meals, her helping hands, and the comfort of simply knowing Mema was there, they will carry her love with them always. The lessons she taught, the memories she made, and the unconditional love she gave will remain a lasting part of those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
Whitesell Funeral Home is serving the family.
