Obituary

Charles A. (Chuck) Rietz was born 12/17/1939 in Pittsburgh, PA to Harold E. Rietz and Bernice Taylor Rietz. His family moved several times before settling in Tucson, AZ. Chuck graduated from Tucson High School and immediately joined the Navy. 

Chuck served aboard the USS Bonne Homme Richard aircraft carrier as a Machine Repairman. After returning to Tucson, he married Karen White and attended the University of Arizona, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business.

Chuck worked in sales for Ortho Pharmaceutical in Milwaukee, WI, then Parker Hannifin in Davenport, IA. From there, he worked for a distributor in Moline, IL and also in Cedar Rapids, IA. After becoming a partner in Iowa Fluid Power based in Cedar Rapids, he moved to Charlotte, NC to start up a new division named Fluid Tech where he met and married Julia Giles. He retired in 2002 after the sale of Fluid Tech.

Chuck loved riding his 1994 Harley Davidson Bad boy to many national events. He belonged to the NC Patriot Guard, the Tega Cay Men’s Breakfast, The Vintage Club in Tega Cay (even became President of said Club at one point), the Tega Cay Veterans Group, Four Seasons Veteran Group, Grace Community Church, Fort Mill and the Good Guys of Grace Community Church. 

He is predeceased by his former wife Karen Rietz and son, Grant Rietz. He is survived by his wife, Julia Rietz, sons, Boyd Rietz of Phoenix, AZ and Greg Rietz of Davenport, IA and daughters Dalis Rose Giles Rietz of Loves Park, IL, Angela Giles of Bluff City, TN and Donna Giles Hueguenin of Murrells Inlet, SC, grandchildren Davina Giles and Nicholas Bower of Rockford, IL and 6 great grandchildren also of Rockford, IL. Chuck loved and adored all animals, especially former and present pets; Bassot Hounds; Max, Maggie, Buddy, and dogs, Nellie and Princess also cats; Boney, Mr. Boots, Cali and Tigger.

Chuck passed at home on 8/16/2026 approximately 12:30 AM surrounded by his loving wife, Julia, and children Angela, Donna, and Dalis.
