Charles Douglas Lawson, 81, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born on April 20, 1945, in Dothan, Alabama, Charles lived a full and vibrant life marked by his love for family, football, and music.
Charles was the son of the late Dr. Charles Lloyd Lawson and Dr. Nettie Black Lawson. He spent his early years in Alabama before embarking on a career that led him to Wells Fargo, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His professional life was characterized by dedication and hard work.
A man of many passions, Charles was known for his unwavering devotion to NFL and college football. A true football fanatic, he never missed a Carolina Panthers game and could often be found cheering enthusiastically for his favorite teams. Beyond sports, Charles had a remarkable singing voice that brought joy to those around him. Whether performing for others or simply singing for the love of it, his voice left an indelible mark on all who heard it.
Charles was cherished for his sense of humor and ability to bring laughter into any room. His warmth and wit endeared him to many throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving daughter Linda Green; her husband John Green; and their daughter Gracelyn Green, who brought immense joy to Charles as his granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Larry Lawson and sister-in-law Jan Lawson, as well as Jean Burden, his longtime girlfriend who shared many happy moments with him.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gayle Lawson, with whom he shared many wonderful years; as well as by his parents.
May the memory of Charles Douglas Lawson bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well-lived. A Visitation will be held on May 2, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Bass-Cauthen 700 Heckle Blvd. A Service will be held on May 2, 2026, at 02:00 PM at Bass-Cauthen 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29730, with the Interment immediately following at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
