Carolyn A. Shaw-Dushaney, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and lifelong lover of the natural world, passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80. 

Carolyn was born on January 6, 1946, in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She attended Greenfield High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1963. She went on to pursue her calling in nursing through the McCann Practical Nursing Program graduating in 1964. Carolyn dedicated her life to caring for others and worked as a nurse until her retirement in 2015.

While her career was an important part of who Carolyn was, those who knew her best will remember her for the warmth of her heart and her extraordinary love for the world around her. 

Carolyn had a special place in her heart for animals and wildlife. She found joy in the simple wonders of nature, the changing seasons, the beauty of the mountains, a garden in bloom, and the birds that visited her yard. She appreciated the quiet moments that so many of us pass by, and she had a wonderful ability to find beauty in the natural world. 

The mountains held a particularly special place in Carolyn’s heart. Their peace, beauty, and timelessness brought her comfort and happiness. Nature was never simply something Carolyn admired; it was something she felt connected to. 

She is remembered with love by her son, Nelson, and his wife, Laura, and her grandchildren, Colin and Aaron, who will carry her love and memory with them always. 

Carolyn is also survived by her sister-in-law, Judy; nephew Rob and his wife, Kelly, and their children; niece Sandi and her husband, Ed; niece Laura and her companion, Chris; niece Kate and her children; nephew David and his wife, Carole, and their children; nephew Richard and his children; niece Christine and her children; and many close and cherished friends who were fortunate to have Carolyn as part of their lives. 

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Raymond and beloved son, Raymond Jr., her parents Walter and Anna Shaw; her brothers, Walter, John, James, and Ben; her sisters, Sue and Emily. 

At Carolyn’s request, a private service for immediate family will be held at a time to be determined. 

In lieu of flowers and donations, those wishing to honor Carolyn’s memory are encouraged to plant something, a tree, a garden, or flowers—and take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the natural world to enjoy the birds, wildlife, and nature she loved so dearly. Whenever you see a bird at the feeder, a flower beginning to bloom, a tree standing quietly against the sky, or wildlife passing through your yard, think of Carolyn. In these small moments, her spirit will continue to live on.
