Carle Maurice MacKinnon, 90, entered his eternal rest on September 26, 2026.

Born on August 11, 1936, in the upstairs front bedroom of his family home in Billerica, Massachusetts, Carle was the beloved son of Harry and Margaret (Spaulding) MacKinnon.

Carle proudly served in the United States Air Force from July 1955 to July 1959. After completing his service, he attended East Coast Aero Tech, beginning a lifelong career in aviation. His work in heavy maintenance took him to major airlines in New York and Boston, and ultimately to Charlotte, where he spent many dedicated years with Eastern Airlines. After Eastern Airlines dismantled, Carle began a new chapter in his working life. He drove longhaul trucks for Schneider along the East Coast with the same dedication he had brought to aviation. Later, he shared his experience by teaching students how to safely and confidently operate commercial trucks — a role he took pride in, knowing he was helping shape the next generation of drivers.

In June 1963, Carle married Mildred Oxendine, and together they built a loving home in Indian Land, South Carolina, raising four children who were the center of his world.

On October 4, 1968, Carle accepted Christ — a turning point that shaped the rest of his life. Though he faced challenges like any man, his faith remained steadfast. He studied scripture diligently and shared his testimony with humility, guiding family members and friends toward Christ. Carle lived his faith through service: repairing cars and appliances for anyone in need, delivering Mildred’s home cooked meals to shut-ins, and driving elderly neighbors to their appointments. His phone rang constantly with calls for help, and he answered them faithfully until his health no longer allowed him to do so.

Carle is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mildred MacKinnon; his children, all of Indian Land, SC— Susan Elizabeth MacKinnon, Cheryl Jean Long, Lorne Edward MacKinnon, and Sandra MacKinnon Long (Trey); his grandchildren, Jared (Delaney), Kelsey, and Alexandra; his great-grandchildren, Elijah and Silas; and brother Allen MacKinnon.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday September 29, 2026, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
