Obituary

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brandon Keith Anderson, affectionately known to family, friends, coworkers, and just about anyone lucky enough to cross his path as "Big Swerve." Brandon passed away suddenly on June 17, 2026, following a massive stroke. He was 48 years old.

To know Brandon was to love him.

In Brandon's case, that wasn't a cliché—it was a fact. He possessed a rare gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and included. Whether you had known him for thirty years or thirty minutes, Brandon had a way of making you feel like you belonged. His booming voice, infectious laugh, relentless sense of humor, and larger-than-life personality could fill any room, but it was his enormous heart that people remembered most.

Born and raised in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Brandon's charisma and leadership were evident from an early age. He served as Student Body President at Fort Mill High School ("Fort Thrill") during the 1995-1996 school year, played on the men's soccer team, and built friendships that would last a lifetime.

He continued his journey at the University of South Carolina, where he became a lifelong and unapologetic Gamecock—despite eventually marrying a Clemson Tiger. Brandon served as Vice President of the Student Government Association from 1999-2000 and helped establish what would become a cherished Carolina tradition: painting the iconic Gamecock on Greene Street in front of the Russell House, a tradition that continues today.

During his college years, Brandon's personality became legendary. He worked at Stuffy's, the beloved wing spot near campus, became a fixture in the Carolina community, and spent time selling advertising for HOT 103.9, where his gift for connecting with people who loved or not loved hip-hop and R&B made him a natural salesman. Brandon loved South Carolina so much that he famously stayed an extra semester—not for academics, but simply because he wasn't ready to miss another football season.

After earning his degree in Advertising and Marketing, Brandon built a successful career in sales and business development. Regardless of the industry, his success always stemmed from the same thing: people trusted him. His final professional chapter at Shred America perfectly reflected who he was. Brandon famously walked into the company's office and told them they needed to hire him. They initially declined. He came back six months later, convinced them otherwise, and went on to become one of the organization's most impactful leaders. Anyone who knew Brandon isn't surprised by that ending.

But for all of Brandon's accomplishments, nothing mattered more to him than his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacey Anderson—known affectionately by Brandon as "Stacey Dawn"—and his two beautiful daughters, Mattie ("Mattie Suz") and Ava ("Pinto Bean"). There was rarely a conversation, gathering, golf outing, road trip, or cold beer where Brandon didn't proudly talk about his girls. He never stopped marveling at the fact that somehow, he had helped create such a beautiful family whom he loved, and they loved him. Brandon never understood the difference between friends and family. To him, if he loved you, you were both.

He is also survived by his mother, Susan Anderson; his brother, Christopher Anderson; countless extended family members; and an extraordinary circle of lifelong friends who became family. Brandon was preceded in death by his father, Andy Anderson, whom he loved deeply and missed dearly since his passing in 2014.

Brandon's passions were simple and genuine: his family, his faith, his friends, his dog “Harley dog” golf, sales, South Carolina football, and an ice-cold beer. He loved fiercely and without reservation. He never met a stranger. He celebrated other people's successes as if they were his own. He showed up when people needed him. He would do anything for his friends—and those who knew him best know that isn't an exaggeration.

His closest friends from high school to college, to “adult life” shared a bond with Brandon that transcended friendship. He was the glue. The connector. The one who made sure everyone stayed together. The one who made every story better and every gathering unforgettable.

Brandon's nickname, "Big Swerve," perfectly captured how he moved through life. He always said, “you can’t live through life in a straight line, you have to glide and swerve your way through it”, always adapting, laughing, and somehow finding joy in places others overlooked. He embraced the nickname so completely that he permanently tattooed a "Swerve Ahead" road sign on his back—a decision that remains equal parts hilarious and perfectly Brandon.

He was loud. Very loud.

He was also known to use the F-word with an artistry rarely witnessed in modern civilization.

Yet somehow, no one ever seemed to mind.

Because every word, every story, every joke, every laugh came from a place of genuine love for people and for life itself.

If Brandon leaves us with one message, it might be the phrase he repeated countless times throughout the years -- "Hey y'all, you know what's awesome about us? EVERYTHING."

It was funny. It was ridiculous. It was pure Big Swerve.

But beneath the laughter was something he genuinely believed: people are worth celebrating.

He made ordinary moments feel special and made the people around him feel seen, valued, and loved.

Because that was Brandon's real gift - he made people feel loved.

And while his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched would give anything for one more laugh, one more hug, one more cold beer, and one more "Hey y'all"—his legacy lives on in all of us.

And in the end, Brandon Anderson left a little bit of Swerve in all of us.

So let's carry it forward.

Love louder.

Laugh harder.

Show up more often.

Tell the people you care about that you love them.

And when life gives you the chance to celebrate the people around you, do it the way Big Swerve would have done it -- Like everything about them was awesome.

Because to Brandon, it was.
