Obituary

Barrett was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, proud veteran, respected police officer, and faithful servant of God. He passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, accomplishments, and a legacy that will continue through the generations of his family.

Born on April 23, 1932, in Tangerine, Florida, Barrett lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, faith, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

His dedication to service began with four and a half years in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country. Following his military service, Barrett continued his commitment to protecting others by joining the New York City Transit Police Department. Over the course of a distinguished 25-year career, he earned the respect of his colleagues through his professionalism, leadership, and strong sense of duty, ultimately retiring with the rank of Sergeant.

But Barrett's commitment to service extended well beyond his military and law enforcement careers.

As a longtime member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Flushing, New York, he faithfully served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for 25 years. His dedication to his church reflected the values he lived by every day: faith, responsibility, generosity, and service to others.

Barrett was also a man who believed in the value of a hard day's work. He had a remarkable ability to look at something others might overlook and see its potential. For decades, he purchased older homes, rolled up his sleeves, and transformed them through his own hard work and craftsmanship. What began as a way to provide for his family became a lifelong passion. He took pride not only in the homes he restored but also in knowing that his efforts helped create a better life for those he loved.

And while Barrett accomplished much throughout his life, nothing meant more to him than his family.

At the center of that family was his beloved wife, Ada. Their extraordinary 69 years of marriage were a testament to love, commitment, patience, and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with memories, shared experiences, and a family that remains their greatest legacy.

Barrett and Ada were blessed with five daughters: Denise, Linda, Susan, Joann, and Valerie, who preceded her father in death, three son-in-laws Ricardo Archer (deceased), Wayne Pough and Carlos Rodriguez. Though Valerie's passing brought great sorrow to the family, she remained forever a cherished part of the family they built together.

His love and influence extended to his 12 grandchildren: Marcus, Ricardo Jr., Justin, Krysten, Chrystal, Jasmin, Michael, Courtney, Kimberly, Matthew, Korey, and Isaiah, as well as his 20 great-grandchildren.

To his family, Barrett was much more than the titles he held or the accomplishments he achieved. He was a source of strength, a provider, a protector, and a man whose actions often spoke louder than words. He believed in doing things the right way, taking care of his responsibilities, and always looking out for family.

Barrett is survived by his beloved wife, Ada; his four daughters, Denise, Linda, Susan, and Joann; his two sons-in-law, Carlos Rodriguez and Wayne Pough; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members, friends, church family, and former colleagues who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Valerie.

Though we will miss his presence, his wisdom, and the familiar comfort of knowing he was there, we can find peace in knowing that his was a life well lived.

He served his country with honor. He protected his community with pride. He served his church with faith. And above all, he loved and provided for his family with unwavering devotion.

That is the legacy of Barrett Jackson.

And that is the man we will always remember.

Rest peacefully, Man. Your work here is done, but your legacy will live on in all of us.
