Augustus Ray Hammond

Mr. Augustus Ray Hammond, 84, of 2044 Dam Road in Fort Mill, SC passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center - Pineville. A native of York County Mr. Hammond was born on April 23, 1926 to the late Augustus and Hattie Hammond. He was a retired owner and operator of a local ABC Store in Fort Mill. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the European theater, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. In addition to his parents Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by a brother William C. Hammond. Surviving are three sons Kenneth Hammond (Carolyn), Ricky C. Hammond (Audrey), and Augustus R. Hammond, Jr. all of Fort Mill; one daughter Linda H. Melton (Fred) also of Fort Mill; Eight grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hammond will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Fite officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8pm at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill.
