Amanda Lyn Patterson, 41, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2025. Born on July 14, 1984, in Fayetteville, NC, Amanda brought joy, warmth, and kindness to everyone who knew her.

Amanda is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard Patterson, who she affectionately called her best friend and partner in life. She is also survived by her beloved mother, Kellye Coltharp, and her cherished bonus father, Ira Coltharp of Fort Mill, SC, whom she fondly referred to as “Irwin.”

Amanda was a treasured bonus sister to Will Coltharp (Carly) of Fort Mill and Glenn Coltharp of Charleston, SC, and a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Marvin and Linda Woodring of Mesquite, NV; her maternal aunt, Shannon Nevett of San Diego, CA; and her maternal uncle, Mike Woodring (Sheila) of Boise, ID.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Lance, whose memory she carried with her always.

A passionate and accomplished research scientist, Amanda was the first author on three published scientific papers, a testament to her dedication and intellect. Outside of her professional life, Amanda found deep joy in the simple and beautiful things—gardening, exercising, and cooking for her family and dogs. She had a special place in her heart for her rescued English bulldogs, whom she adored.

A celebration of Amanda’s life will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC. (Date and Time to be announced shortly) Friends and family are invited to come together in remembrance and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Amanda’s memory to Bullies 2 the Rescue, her favorite charity, or to the animal rescue organization of your choice.

Amanda will be remembered for her intelligence, infectious laugh, warmth, wit, and boundless love for her family, her dogs, and the world around her. To know her was to love her.
