With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alton Osco Ramsey, 73, who went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2026.
Alton was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on August 1, 1952, to Elzie Ramsey and Maybelle Lindsey, and later gained a stepfather through his mother’s marriage to Homer Lindsey. Alton married Sharon Ramsey in 1970, building a life together of 55 years filled with family, love, and memories. At an early age, he started working in the local mill. He then moved into the construction field, where he worked as a sheetrock finisher, taking great pride in his craft.
Known for his caring, selfless, and generous spirit, Alton touched numerous lives. Alton loved the Lord, spreading His Word at every opportunity. To many, he was characterized by his encouraging nature and his desire to make all those around him laugh. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock, and one of the only things that rivaled his love for the Gamecocks was being a grandfather and proudly wearing the title of “Pop.” From babysitting to football to baseball to basketball to all school activities to weddings and family events, his favorite activities included all this and anything else his grandsons were doing.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his children Tina Hilton (husband Rob) and Chad Ramsey (wife Tiffany), his grandchildren Devin Hilton (wife Shelbey), Logan Hilton (wife Gracie), Caleb Ramsey, and Lucas Ramsey, his brothers Billy Ramsey (wife Patricia), Kenneth Ramsey, and Dean Lindsey (wife Pauline), and his sister Patricia Jennings (husband Scott).
He was preceded in death by his parents Elzie, Maybelle and Homer, his brothers Larry (wife Judy) and Bobby, and his sisters Shirley Roberts and Elaine McKeown (husband Johnny).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church in Edgemoor, SC, with a Celebration of Life to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks, if you feel inclined, donations be made to a charity of your choice in Alton’s name.
